The Wolf House (2018) is one of the most visually captivating films I've ever seen. Mixed media stop-motion animation that uses the walls, floors, and furniture of a house as its canvas. When I first watched the movie at home years ago, my jaw stayed on the floor for most of the runtime.
Part of what makes The Wolf House so special is its dark origins behind the fairytale horror. Colonia Dignidad was an isolated colony of German immigrants established post-World War II in Chile. Known for bringing their Nazi ideologies and religious extremism to Chile, the colony thrived under the military dictatorship of General Augusto Pinochet and committed awful crimes against humanity.

Before the film, we'll also be screening the 16min short film Bestia (2021). Based on real events, the film is based on the atrocities committed by Ingrid Olderöck, a major in the Chilean secret police whose method of torturing dissidents was to use trained dogs to assault them. The relationship with her dog, her body, her fears and frustrations, reveal a macabre fracture in her mind and a country. This 16min short is essential viewing both in context and tone-setting for The Wolf House.
Content Warnings: The Wolf House is a dark fairytale carrying themes of domestic violence and child and animal abuse. It also contains flashing lights and shaky cam.
